Terroir Box: Pomerol - Purity, Precision, and Utter Decadence.
Merlot has become an unduly maligned grape; labeled as "boring," "Pedestrian," or "Commercial." Obviously, anybody clueless enough to believe this, has never experienced Pomerol. More appropriately referred to as "the Burgundy of Bordeaux," Pomerol is by far the smallest and most elite village of the Libournais - the magical clay soils which produce some of the world's most thrillingly fragranced and most expensive red wines. Anybody say, Petrus? Yup, that's Pomerol, baby. Here is a hit-list of our favorite Six, other than Petrus, which won't completely break the bank, and show you just how incredible Merlot (& Cabernet Franc!) can be!
