Though largely ignored in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855, any savvy drinker knows that Pessac and Leognan are where it's at, when it comes to sophistication, depth, and deliciousness. Almost a sum-total of all the appellations above it on the left bank, Pessac boasts a stunningly multi-faceted charachter; the rustic earthiness of St. Estephe, the regal structure of Pauillac, the sexy curves of Saint-Julien, and alluring fragrance of Margaux, all in one package. Aside from its most famous protagonist, Chateau Haut-Brion, here are some of our personal favourites, going back into the 1980's:
