Rockstars: The Mystical Maremma & Castello del Terriccio

Tucked away, in the coastal hills of the mysterious Maremma, lies a former medieval fiefdom turned winery called Castello dell Terriccio - one of Tuscany's true Diamonds in the rough. As the cool ocean breeze and morning fogs temper the harsh Tuscan sun, grapes more accustomed to Bordeaux or the Rhone emerge here as unlikely stars, brilliantly combining to create various interpretations of "Super Tuscan" from the Cab & Merlot of Tassinaia, the Syrah and Petit Verdot of flagship Castello del Terriccio, or the Cabernet and Petit Verdot variation of Lupicaia.

These are truly beguiling wines, their undeniably Tuscan nature wrapping their underlying rusticity in a warm blanket of regal structure and decadent fruit.
